The mink down is spun with the finest quality cashmere from Inner Mongolia. The ultra soft mink down is wonderfully compatible with cashmere resulting in this extraordinary yarn. Knitting stimulates a lovely blossoming of the mink fibers. All yarns are top dyed, a superior dying technique, all fibers are dyed prior to carding and spinning yielding a richer, more consistent color. Another advantage to top dying is that colors are extremely consistent from dye lot to dye lot; virtually indistinguishable.

Our goal in developing this yarn was to provide conscientious knitters an alternative to sacrificing minks order to enjoy the natural beauty and physical properties of the minks fibers. The fibers we harvest by shearing minks is more valuable as a renewable resource to the farmer than individual pelt; we have spared countless minks. I traveled to China in August 2008 to develop the yarn properly. I formed a partnership with the owner of a cashmere firm in Inner Mongolia. This was extremely expensive but the right thing to do. I can assure you the entire process is quite humane. The minks are sheared once a year in the warm summer months. The shearing process only takes a matter of seconds. It's amazingly quick, zip zip and it's done and the minks are back on their feet running around. The farmers livelihood depends on healthy minks, they are treated extremely well.
